Dr. Robert F. Kushner, MD, MS

Dr. Robert Kushner is Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. He recieved his medical degree from the University of Illinois. After finishing a residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University, he went on to complete a post-graduate fellowship in Clinical Nutrition and earned a Masters degree in Clinical Nutrition and Nutritional Biology from the University of Chicago. Dr. Kushner is past president of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists (ABPNS), and current Vice President of The Obesity Society (TOS). He is on the editorial board for Obesity Management, Obesity, the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, and Today’s Diet & Nutrition.
In 2002, Dr. Kushner was the recipient of the distinquished Dannon Institute Award for Excellence in Medical/Dental Nutrition Education presented by the American Society for Clinical Nutrition. Dr. Kushner has authored over 140 original articles, reviews and book chapters covering medical nutrition, medical nutrition education, and obesity. He is author of Dr. Kushner’s Personality Type Diet (St. Martin’s Griffin Press, 2003), medical director of diet.com, an online version of the personality type diet, and editor of the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Assessment and Management of Adult Obesity: A Primer for Physicians (2003). His most recent book, Fitness Unleashed (Three Rivers Press, 2006) provides a combined weight loss and execise plan for owners and their companion dogs.
Lisa M. Neff, MD, MS
Assistant Professor of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine
Dr. Lisa Neff joined Northwestern as an Assistant Professor of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine in October, 2009. Dr. Neff earned her B.S. in German and Biology from Tufts University in 1994 and her M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 1999. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at UIC in 2002 and dual fellowships in Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston in 2006. Upon completion of her fellowships, Dr. Neff joined the Clinical Scholar Program at the Rockefeller University in New York City, earning a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Translational Research. Dr. Neff is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. She is also certified by the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists. She is an active member of The Obesity Society and the American Society for Nutrition.
Dr. Neff's clinical interests include the management of excess body weight, nutritional disorders, and weight-related metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. She also co-directs our Healthy For You: Healthy for Two program, which is designed to help overweight women have healthier pregnancies.
Dr. Neff’s research has largely focused on nutritional interventions for the treatment of weight-related metabolic disorders. She has also recently begun work on research projects designed to prevent excessive weight gain during pregnancy, which can have adverse consequences for both mother and baby.
Holly Herrington, RD, LDN
Registered Dietitian in the Center for Lifestyle Medicine at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation
Holly Herrington, RD, LDN, is a Registered Dietitian in the Center for Lifestyle Medicine at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. Holly received undergraduate degrees in Marketing and Human Sciences from Mississippi State University as well as a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Mississippi. Holly completed her dietetic internship and pursued her Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She worked as both an inpatient and outpatient dietitian at Rush before joining Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in 2009. Holly is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Her clinical interests include weight loss/bariatric surgery, diabetes management, cardiovascular health, gastrointestinal health and prenatal nutrition. Erin McCarthy, MS, RD, LDN

Erin McCarthy MS, RD, LDN is a Registered Dietitian at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in Chicago. She recieved her undergraduate degree in Nutrition from University of Illinois. She completed her dietetic internship and masters degree from Rush University Medical Center. She has worked inpatient at Resurrection Medical Center and then went on to be the bariatric dietitian at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. She was Bariatric Ambassador for Morrison Management Specialists and is a member of the American Dietetic Association, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, as well as International Diet and Exercise Association.
Erin is certified in weight management for adults via the American Dietetic Association. She has authored 2 original articles, regarding Leptin and Bariatric Surgery. She is also a certified group fitness instructor through the American Council on Exercise.
